The Smart City Mission (SCM) of the Government of India is one of the flagship project that provides core infrastructure and gives a decent quality of life to its citizens with a clean and sustainable environment with the applications of Smart Solutions.The focus is on sustainable and inclusive development and the idea is to look at compact areas, create a replicable model which will act like a light house to other aspiring cities.
The Smart Cities Mission of the Government is a bold and new initiative. It is meant to set examples that can be replicated both within and outside the Smart City, catalysing the creation of similar Smart Cities in various regions and parts of the country.
The State of Uttar Pradesh had participated in the “selection of cities” through Smart City Proposal submission process. Ten cities (Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Agra, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Bareilly, Aligarh & Jhansi) from Uttar Pradesh were shortlisted by the Government of India. Saharanpur was selected in the 4th round of selection process on 19.01.2018.
SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle), Saharanpur Smart City Limited was established on 01.03.2018.Divisional Commissioner of Saharanpur is the ‘Chairman’ and Municipal Commissioner of Saharanpur Nagar Nigam is the ‘Chief Executive Officer’ of the company.M/s PwC India Private Limited is the PMC (Project Management Consultant) to Design manage and implement the Saharanpur Smart City Projects.
Mission Components are:
Smart City Proposal cost for Saharanpur is Rs. 1505 cr. and under this, 41 projects are approved. Projects are divided into ABD and PAN City. There are 70 wards in PAN city out of which 20 wards are covered under ABD area. PAN City area is 73.72 sq.km and ABD area is 5.1 sq.km.
Under the mission Rs. 954.76 cr. will be provided through SCM funding, Rs. 123.00 cr from Convergence Funding and Rs. 417.00 cr. will be managed through PPP fund.
